The piece came about in a desire to push outside of a more in tune traditional music. What new opportunities open up in 53 that are impossible in 12? A small idea is explored, expressed through one very long cadence with unusual voice leading. By raising the entire dominant chord by two or three 53edo steps, just below or above a quarter tone, the linear distance to the tonic is greatly reduced.

One of the long term goals with the neod is to be able to play together with other acoustic and electronic musicians. The viola in this piece provides a timbral contrast to the neod which was useful in giving me some direction in the exploration of the sound synthesis. It was also an exercise in reproducing the 53edo pitches exactly by ear on the viola, which I did by first recording a sonic score on the neod, an approach inspired by Elisabeth Schimana's work. This made it apparent how extraordinarily sensitive some of the chords are. Some additional practice will be required before I can play a ^^^Gv7 by ear.
